CEU Topic: heard the latest from the
well known, Certified Disability Management Specialist and
Rehabilitation Counselor, Mary Ciddio. Mary compared the old
RU94 process with the new and give us some valuable tools to
use as we navigate this complex process in a way that
improves our chances for a successful conclusion.

Poster Session: AAOHN Standards was presented by Lynn
Hinds.
Guest Speaker and Topic: Mike Laughlin, senior partner
with the law firm Laughlin, Falbo, Levy and Moresi,
discussed the recent IBM cases. Mike is representing IBM in
45 of the workers' compensation claims. He gave us an
overview of the litigation, discuss the types of claims and
the theory behind the allegations and explain the overlap
with the civil cases. Mike also discussed how this
litigation affects the computer industry and chip
manufacturing in general.

Poster Session: Was presented by Linda Watanabe, RN, BSN;
The Poster Session focused on "Keyboard Commands".
Guest Speaker and Topic: Vivienne Fleischer of
Performance Based Ergonomics presented "Typing Without
Pain:. After suffering from injuries resulting from improper
performance technique as both a concert pianist and a
typist, Vivienne began noticing certain movements at the
piano with similar faulty and potentially injurious
movements at the computer keyboard. Her desire to regain
comfort and help other injured performers started Vivienne
on the road to developing Performance Based Ergonomics where
she is co-founder and President.
The March 9, 2004, CECRAOHN MEETING:
Poster Session: Was presented by Gloria Labrador, RN,
COHN. The Poster Session focused on "The Aging
Workforce".
Guest Speaker and Topic: Noma Ladendorff Collins,
Ph.D. spoke about current major research and treatment
advances in breast cancer. Noma holds a Ph.D. in Immunology
and is a Post-doctoral fellow at Stanford University
Department of Pathology. Dr. Collins currently works as the
Breast Health Education Coordinator for the Community Breast
Health Project (CBHP) in Palo Alto, CA. CBHP is a nonprofit
organization dedicated to providing information and support
to people dealing with breast cancer or breast health
issues.

Guest speakers and Topic: Dr. Dan Azar and Dr. Paul Ware
of Alliance Occupational Medicine presented a dual approach
to repetitive motion injuries. Dr. Azar's talk was from a
primary care physician's point of view and Dr. Ware as a

The Poster Session was presented by Marilyn Howard, BSN,
RN, COHN-S. Marilyn presentation was about the Alliance
between Kaiser and State Fund.
The guest speaker and topic was Bill Armstrong from the
Armstrong Law Firm who discussed and analyzed the
significant changes and decisions impacting our Workers
Compensation programs in 2004. Bill will also discuss the
Governor's proposal.

provided an update on "TB Prevention Partnership."

The October CECRAOHN MEETING was
held on October 8, 2002.
Mary Garry, Business Risk Manager,
Global Risk Management, Hewlett Packard, addressed the
group on the recent Worker's Comp changes
and associated legislative areas that will affect our
practice area.
Catherine Ayers further expand on this
subject presenting a poster session that addressed a
Worker's Comp process that has become
extremely important because of various recent legislative
changes.
The July CECRAOHN MEETING was held
on July 9, 2002, and was the Summer Picnic BBQ.
The vendor representative was David Lewis with Cornerstone
Fitness. Cornerstone Fitness is committed to providing
business and industry with exceptional health and fitness
services. Keeping people fit, healthy, and productive is
their business. Their operating philosophy is simple:

The focus of the meeting was to have fun and support the
Battered Women's
Shelter in Mountain View. Donations of personal
articles were brought to the meeting and given to the
Battered Network. Monetary donations were made out to
CECRAOHN. CECRAOHN forwarded donations in one lump sum to
gain recognition as a outreach support to the
community.
The June CECRAOHN MEETING was
held on Tuesday, June 11, 2002.
The Speaker was Lori Douglass, CECRAOHN President
speaking on the "State of the State". She brought us up to
date on the California State Association of Occupational
Health Nurses and important issues for the upcoming
year. She has graciously given permission to post the slides
used in her presentation online.
The Poster Session was given by Carolyn Speers on her
recent visit to Ethiopia in support of the efforts being
made in the health arena.

The May CECRAOHN MEETING was held on
Tuesday, May 14, 2002. Poster session began at 6:00 PM, Main
meeting began at 6:30 PM.
The main speaker was Steven Rubinstein,
MD, allergist from the Camino Medical Group
speaking about latex allergy.
The poster session was presented by Beth
Thomas demonstrating the Monopoly game board she
devised to be utilized in HR and manager training session
based on FMLA, ADA, disability and worker's comp.
The vendor was Pete Davie from
AtWork Resources, Inc. (AWR) located in
Belmont CA, presenting the AtWork Manager®, a web-based
application for the management of injuries and illnesses and
absence in the workplace, focusing on the return to work
process.

Vogel, U.S. Labor and Employment Counselor for
Agilent Technologies speaking about the recent decision to
come out of the 9th District Circuit Court which changes the
way disabilities are addressed in the workplace. This was
an excellent presentation for the Human Resources
community.
Lynn Hinds presented the poster session
on Government Affairs and how much we can really influence
our lawmakers. (More good information for HR).
